The atmospheric engine was the very first engine built by Harley-Davidson. It presided over the "Silent Gray Fellow" era, the nickname given to early 20th-century bikes for their standard color and relatively quiet exhaust. This engine was behind many Harley-Davidson "firsts: - the first marketable street bike, the first racing bike and the first police bike.
